The Quiet Feminist
This showcase portrays a series of women who represent the quiet spirit of feminism through my lens.
Each one of us, whether we are male or female, has our own interpretation of feminism.
To me, feminism is not necessarily about believing that women are better than men, or even that women and men are created equal.
It’s also not about joining a loud feminist protest, every once in a while.
Feminism, to me, is ultimately about a woman’s right to choose what she wishes to do (whatever that may be) with her body, her mind, and her life.
The Giver
She is a woman, who – like my mother (portrayed) – willingly makes the decision to step down from her role as the breadwinner of the family and dedicate her life to being the best mother that she can… because that had always been her dream job.
The Optimist
She is a woman who keeps the hope of a happy marriage alive, where her voice is heard, and her partner treats her with respect and dignity.
The Rebel
She is a woman who does not subscribe to society’s outdated expectations of the traditional South Asian bride and works quietly to break free of its shackles.
The Determined
She is a woman who believes that she can move mountains and overcome any obstacle thrown at her to achieve her wildest dreams. She will never take 'no' for an answer.
The Empowered
She is a woman who has fallen a hundred times and has gotten back up each time, stronger and more empowered than before.
The Free
She is a woman who is comfortable in her own skin, her sexuality, and her identity –
She is free of the labels and judgement society puts on her.
She is free to choose what she does (whatever that may be) with her body, her mind, and her life.
